Data Card
icon1 gowtham | icon2 Technology, computers | icon4 02 10th, 2010| icon3No Comments »

With the fast-paced technology that we have today we always encounter new terms. Now i came across a term called Data Card. And searched in Google and found that its a thumb drive like thing, when you can connect to your computers or laptops USB port and get wireless internet connection. Data cards can be brought by your internet service provider.

Reading the site about DataCard taught me that data cards are now being used in India and many south asian countries nowadays. Companies that provide broadband connection in that country are Airtel, Bsnl, Mthl, Reliance,Tata Indicom, Idea, Vodafone, Aircel and a lot more. It has been a lot easier for the people in India to have a mobile broadband because they are able to do things on the internet even they are away from home or office. Though the words DataCards are pretty self-explained, I still want to know the exact thing it does, and I want to fully understand its functions when someone mentions it.

Some of the great offers you can get from your data card are the high speed internet for twenty four hours, easy to install and simple to use. You can also use your data card to send and receive SMS. Usually these data cards provide much better speed than dial up. Now you can freely go anywhere you want to without worrying about not getting internet connection. This will allow you to keep in touch with your business partners, families and friends anywhere you go.

Camping made better
icon1 gowtham | icon2 fun, travel | icon4 02 10th, 2010| icon3No Comments »

I hated camping when i was a kid, say when i was like 10 years old, that is purely because of my father. Because back in the days, he used to take us for camping in to the woods with nothing other than our old car, tents, food and some logs and a old rusted Gun. That is it. Can you imagine how boring it would be with out a television or even a radio when camping. but only after a couple of years he realized that he need to get more stuff for camping. I wasn’t able to believe my eyes when he got a RV. But just buying an used RV wouldn’t help it, we started to get the RV fully loaded with all the required things to make it so cool. But my dad was not willing to spend much money on the RV. But we did find some good deals on the internet to buy supplies and accessories for rvs. Actually we got some impressive offers on a site. To buy all the camping stuff we needed. Camping is not the same after we got the RV. Its so much fun nowadays. Honestly, i started to bug my dad to take us to camping every week end.

i wouldn’t have come to know about this place Sterling Farms, until my cousin told me. I live in Orlando and my cousin lives here in Orlando as well, i go to her home once every month and have a small chat for a while, she the only relative of mine living in Orlando. The last time when i went to her home, her husband told that they have brought a new house in a place called Sterling Farms. Now, seriously i didn’t had any idea where this place was. He told that the place is just a few hours drive from Orlando and he told that he can take me there if i wanted to. So we planned to go to Jacksonville, that is the nearest town to Sterling Farms, and i seriously got so amazed by Sterling Farms. Because the place is so calm, i can’t believe that my busy city is just a few hours drive from there. One can enjoy living in a natural, countryside setting being just a few minutes away from Jacksonville NC. Beautiful sidewalks, rolling landscape, untouched wooded areas and some natural streams. There are community clubs as well to get social with people and this cant get better than this. If you are looking forward to buy a home in a place like this you should contact any good Jacksonville NC real estate company and it will be easy for you to get your dream house in Sterling farms.

i have been using a business web hosting for a while, i have an e-commerce website. I dont want to say that my current hosting is bad, but it certainly can’t manage all the traffic. So now i need to get better web hosting. So i was asking around and some of my friends told that i need to go for a dedicated hosting. A dedicated webhosting is something in which the servers bandwidth, disk space or processor or whatever is not shared with other, So i decided to buy a dedicated hosting, even though its a bit expensive when compared to my current web hosting plan. There are lots of companies which are providing dedicated servers, so it might be a bit hard for you to choose the best dedicated server for you. There are lots of sites on the internet, which post user reviews about these dedicated server provides, and compare each and every dedicated server provider in all the views, so that its easy for us to choose the one that better suites our site. Also with a dedicated hosting, i think i wont be having much restrictions, i can host any number of domains on my server, create any number of databases and what not.

I’ve spent the last week throughly enjoying my new Droid, and while I’ve come across some problems, most of my issues have simply been with the fact that Android does things differently than the iPhone — the transition just takes some getting used to. But there’s one big issue that needs far more than a UI tweak: Android Market. If there was a theme common to nearly every Droid review, it was that Android’s app selection just doesn’t cut it compared to the iPhone. I think that consensus is only half the story. These reviewers are finding that Android has a weaker selection of applications than the iPhone not just because some of their favorite apps aren’t there, but because actually browsing the Market just isn’t as enjoyable as what Apple’s iTunes offers. If Android’s Market’s perception as a poor man’s App Store is going to change, this experience needs to improve. Currently, all Android Market browsing and transactions are done through an application that comes with the phone.

This mobile application used to be pretty bad (it didn’t even offer screenshots of the apps), but was finally overhauled in September to be more competitive with the iPhone’s mobile version of the App Store. The new version is a big improvement, but browsing the store from the phone isn’t exactly a good time — you can only see a few apps at once, so scrolling through various lists gets tedious. Contrast that with the App Store that’s integrated into Apple’s iTunes. Using iTunes to download new applications isn’t just something people do when they need an app to accomplish a certain task. It’s something they do for fun. Clicking through various top apps exposes plenty of high quality games, apps from popular sites like Yelp, and even the occasional productivity tool. It’s all very fast too — you can easily download fifteen new apps in a single browsing session without breaking a sweat. Android doesn’t have anything close to that.

The official Android Market website (pictured below) is a total joke. It shows a list of some of the top apps from its Paid and Free sections, along with a handful of screenshots. It doesn’t even have a full listing of the apps available, or any kind of search feature (as an aside, the entire Android site looks terrible — type in “Android” into Google, and this homepage is the first result). Yes, there are more comprehensive third-party listings, but there’s no way to download apps to your device without looking them up from your phone.

Nearly two weeks after submitting the app to Apple, Facebook’s totally revamped 3.0 application is finally live on the App Store, according to the app’s developer Joe Hewitt . You can download it now here . The store currently shows that the app is version 2.5, but if you click the Download button anyway you’ll get the new version. The new application brings a slew of new features, making it what may be the most useful app on the App Store (be sure to read this post) for our full review. Among the additions are Events, which have frustratingly been omitted from previous versions. Now you’ll be able to look up where your Events are, and you can also respond to them and see which of your friends are attending (for anyone who has ever had to boot up the web version of the site just to look up an Event address, this is a big deal). You can also post video directly to the site if you have an iPhone 3GS — a feature that will likely see the number of videos on Facebook increase dramatically. Smaller changes include a News Feed that more closely reflects the feed you’ll find on the main Facebook site, as well as the ability to “Like” items your friends have created. One feature that users will be missing is Push Notifications, which we suspect will be rolled out in version 3.1, which Hewitt is already working on. There will also be support for landscape mode in the upcoming release, and we may also see support for the ability to watch Facebook videos from the phone (right now you can only upload them). It’s worth noting that the 11 day wait since Facebook originally submitted the application was enough to raise Hewitt’s ire (and justifiably so), leading him to condemn the App Store approval process and call for its removal entirely. I couldn’t agree with him more.

Following Google’s announcement of its music product this morning, Facebook is officiallyenhancing its Gift Shop with a redesign and new categories of gifts and additional gifts for charity, music and sports from developers. The changes will be rolled out to users in the coming weeks. On Facebook’s Gift Shop, you need to purchase credits on the site (via credit card), that cost 10 cents in U.S. currency are are available in 15 different countries. With the enhanced version of the gift shop, you will be able to purchase songs as gifts for your friends. Powered by Lala.com, the gift shop will offer over 8 million songs from a vast variety of artists ranging from Mozart to Beyonce. Web songs cost 1 credit (or 10 cents) each, while full, downloadable, and digital rights management-free (DRM) MP3s are 9 credits each. Some of this money goes to Facebook but Lala takes a cut of every transaction. But you don’t have to have a Lala account to play or receive a song.

So how do Facebook users play their songs form the social network? You can play songs from your news feed or from Lala.com’s platform, which they can connect to via Facebook Connect. If you buy an MP3, you can also download the songs you can play the tracks on iTunes or other music players. Facebook users who can see the music gift on other friend’s feeds can play the song in full once, after which they will be able to play a 30-second clip. Facebook is also getting a little more sports-friendly by adding branded virtual gifts from professional and college teams. Officially licensed gifts from the U.S. National Basketball Association and U.S. Major League Soccer are now available in the Gift Shop, as well as school-themed gifts from a number of major U.S. colleges ranging from Oklahoma State to Stanford University.
While you can currently purchase gifts from non-profits, like Kiva, Project Red, TOMS Shoes, Charity Water and the World Wildlife Fund, Facebook is now also including gifts via the Causes application. So you can make donations to a cause as a gift for your friends for pretty much any cause supported through the app.

The concept of Facebook as an e-commerce platform seems to be lifting off. PayPal is partnering with Payvment to help any Facebook user set up a retail storefront. Not to mention the immense popularity of virtual gifts on the platform. And with this new announcement, it seems that not only if Facebook opening up a revenue stream, but the network is creating a totally new way for users to socially engage with the platform: through music.

Microsoft will announce the integration of real time status updates from both Twitter and Facebook into Bing at the Web 2.0 Summit today, we’ve heard from a source with knowledge of the deals. The announcement will be made by Qi Lu , President of Microsoft’s Online Services Group, later this morning. The deals will integrate real time updates from users of the services into search results. Google and Bing aren’t good at pulling in this real time data today because of the need to constantly index user pages, and the difficulty in knowing when those pages have been updated. Users have turned to Twitter Search and other real time search engines like Topsy and OneRiot to get this information. Similar deals with Google have been rumored for some time, and we’ve confirmed that at least Twitter has been in discussions with Google around a data deal for months. But Bing is going to be first to announce these deals. It will be weeks before the new features are live on Bing, we’ve heard from our source. Facebook swamps Twitter in the number of status updates, with some 45 million of the short emotional grunts by users daily. However, Twitter updates are by default public. Facebook, in contrast, is default private and the vast majority of updates are currently protected from search engines.

Twitter has recently been criticized for exposing messages from users that have turned their accounts private – previously public messages remain indexable by search engines even after privacy settings have changed. Facebook is creating privacy controls, we’ve learned, that will allow users to set even previously public status updates to private, meaning search engines will be prohibited from indexing the content. It won’t be perfect, since anything published on the Internet is often spread far and wide. But it may allow users to hide previously public data to some extent. There are two big questions that remain unanswered at this point. First, what will Google’s response to the Bing announcements be? And second, is Bing paying for this data? Twitter is clearly counting on data streams as a revenue source, but our position has been that the data is simply too valuable to give to competitors. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free and all that.

You know the Google Maps upside-down teardrop shaped markers? It looks like they’re starting to appear in the real world, at various locations around the globe. You can see the locations that have them on this Google Maps Favorite Places page. For example, there are apparently a bunch of these markers in San Francisco already. One (which happens to be in my neighborhood) has been caught on camera. As you can see, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has his own Google Maps marker indicating that he likes La Boulange de Polk, a restaurant in the area. Newsom’s marker features a painting of the Golden Gate Bridge, other famous people have their own markers. The statue is listed as being for “Summer 2009? which seems to indicate that it will expire in a few months, and Google may remove it. But for now, this looks like a very smart way for Google to promote Maps. It’s also a good way to ensure that businesses list themselves on Maps, for the possibility that they’ll receive one of these markers, which are basically a (presumably) free endorsement of the establishment. There are plenty of other famous people participating in this program including a lot of famous chefs endorsing restaurants they like, Kevin Rose (the co-founder of Digg), musicians (Moby, the guitarist of the Decemberists), and a whole host of others around the world. Perhaps these things showing up is like the Monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, where it signals a shift in evolution.
