Both Windows and Linux come in many flavors. All the flavors of Windows come from Microsoft, the various distributions of Linux come from different companies (i.e. Linspire, Red Hat, SuSE, Ubuntu, Xandros, Knoppix, Slackware, Lycoris, etc. ).

Windows has two main lines. The older flavors are referred to as “Win9x” and consist of Windows 95, 98, 98SE and Me. The newer flavors are referred to as “NT class” and consist of Windows NT3, NT4, 2000, XP and Vista. Going back in time, Windows 3.x preceded Windows 95 by a few years. And before that, there were earlier versons of Windows, but they were not popular. Microsoft no longer supports Windows NT3, NT4, all the 9x versions and of course anything older. Support for Windows 2000 is partial (as of April 2007).

The flavors of Linux are referred to as distributions (often shortened to “distros”). All the Linux distributions released around the same time frame will use the same kernel (the guts of the Operating System). They differ in the add-on software provided, GUI, install process, price, documentation and technical support. Both Linux and Windows come in desktop and server editions.

There may be too many distributions of Linux, it’s possible that this is hurting Linux in the marketplace. It could be that the lack of a Linux distro from a major computer company is also hurting it in the marketplace. IBM is a big Linux backer but does not have their own branded distribution. Currently there seem to be many nice things said about the Ubuntu distribution.

Linux is customizable in a way that Windows is not. For one, the user interface, while similar in concept, varies in detail from distribution to distribution. For example, the task bar may default to being on the top or the bottom. Also, there are many special purpose versions of Linux above and beyond the full blown distributions described above. For example, NASLite is a version of Linux that runs off a single floppy disk (since revised to also boot from a CD) and converts an old computer into a file server. This ultra small edition of Linux is capable of networking, file sharing and being a web server.

Duels WoW

While player versus player gameplay is perfectly viable and rewarding,
there is a means of friendlier competition that isn’t as intense as faction
versus faction violence. If you wish to test your skill against other players,
you can challenge them to a duel.
ISSUING A CHALLENGE
A duel challenge can be issued on a PvP or non-PvP server. To challenge a
player to a duel, select the player and then right-click on the player’s
portrait. Select the Duel option. The other player can then either accept or
decline the challenge.
When a challenge is first issued, a duel flag drops down between the two
players, signaling to other players that a duel is about to commence. If the
other player declines the duel, the duel flag disappears. If the other player
accepts, then the duel is on, and the flag continues to wave until a winner
emerges.
As soon as the other player consents to the duel, you and the other player
can begin attacking each other, using the same abilities, spells, and tactics
you employ against the monsters you normally fight against.

The world’s second longest unbroken coast in the world is right here. This 12km stretch, called the Marina Beach, lies in the heart of the city. Having survived the 2004 tsunami, the beach will undergo a major facelift soon.

Check out the hawker stalls, fishing boats and fortune-tellers on the beach before that happens.

And visitors who take a 30-minute drive from the main beach towards Thalankuppam will be rewarded by the unadorned beauty of an abandoned pier.

One of the greatest moment a player reaches in WoW is that when he/she get to LVL 40, and get a mount. Remember getting your first mount in World of Warcraft? Getting to level 40 and then doing everything in your power to scrape up that 80-90 gold so you could be the guy proudly running past the walking folks in Stranglethorn? Well those days are coming to an end as Blizzard’s latest patch notes reveal level 30 apprentice mounts. From the patch notes themselves.

After you learn a new ability or spell, it’s time to add it to your action bar.
This allows you to use it easily in battle. Click on the Abilities button on the
bottom of your screen. This button looks like a book. You can also press the
“I” hotkey.
In your Abilities window, you see your attack ability, along with any other
abilities you already have. An ability that has the “passive” tag next to it does
not need to be activated and is always on. These types of abilities never
need to be placed on your action bar.
The ability you just learned should be on this ability page. If you learned a
spell, it will be on the spell page. In some cases, you might have to click on
the spell or ability tab at the bottom of your book to access it. Mouse over the
new spell or ability icon in your spellbook or abilities book to see what it does.
Then add it to your action bar. Left-click and hold the icon. Then drag it onto
the third slot in your action bar. It now appears there. You can now use it by
clicking on it or by pressing the appropriate hotkey, which is the 3 key.

Russia Hit Back

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Nato of bias and of trying to save the “criminal regime” in Tbilisi.

He insisted Moscow was not occupying Georgia and had no plans to annex the separatist region of South Ossetia.

Earlier, Nato demanded that Russia pull out its troops from Georgia as agreed in an EU-brokered ceasefire plan signed by both parties at the weekend.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev told his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy in a phone call that the pull-out would be complete by 21-22 August, with the exception of some 500 troops, who will be installed in peacekeeping posts on either side of South Ossetia’s border.

France later tabled a US-backed draft resolution at the UN Security Council, demanding full compliance with the ceasefire and calling on Moscow to withdraw its forces to the positions held before the conflict.

Russia’s UN ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, rejected the text. He objected to language on Georgia’s territorial integrity, saying South Ossetia and Abkhazia did not want to be part of Georgia.

Some Russian troops have been seen leaving Gori, the largest Georgian town close to the South Ossetia border.

But BBC correspondents on the ground say there are still Russian artillery positions in place. In addition, there are Russian checkpoints close to the Georgian capital, Tbilisi.

Chinese-Indian cuisine

There are many options in Chennai.

Mainland China at Aruna Hotel offers Chinese-Indian cuisine. The trouble with Chinese cuisine in India is one needs to have a stomach for chilli chicken or fried noodles with a liberal dash of masala or spices. But this restaurant does Chinese food the way it is meant to be.

The French Loaf on Harrington Road is the perfect spot for a cup of coffee and some croissants.

‘I like this bakery because of its divine smell indoors and the outdoor benches under trees,’ she says. And even though it is located next to a school, it is not overrun by noisy schoolchildren.

Another must-try is Anokhi. Although less attractive than its sister cafe, Amethyst, which is located in an old summer palace, the smaller and pricier Anokhi is a nice and quiet place to unwind in.

Rathna Cafe at Triplicane represents the old Madras. Cheap and unfancy, it offers one of the best traditional Indian breakfasts. Bite into its light fluffy idli (steamed rice cake) and thosai (paper- thin crepe), and don’t forget to savour the filter coffee.
