TV licence may be cut – minister

The television licence fee could be cut under the government’s public spending austerity drive, Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said.

The author Alan Sillitoe has died aged 82 at Charing Cross Hospital in London, his family has said.
The Nottingham-born novelist emerged in the 1950s as one of the “Angry Young Men” of British fiction.

Poet Porter dies at the age of 81

Peter Porter, a winner of both the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry and the Forward Prize has died at the age of 81 after being treated for cancer.
