David Jason has announced his first role since quitting A Touch of Frost – playing a former dock worker in a new ITV1 drama.

Jason and Alison Steadman (Pride and Prejudice) will star in Come Rain Come Shine as a retired couple whose family face financial ruin.

Filming on the two-hour drama will start next month.

Writer Jeff Pope admitted Jason was “nervous of playing Cockney characters” again after playing Del Boy Trotter.

“But I think he felt the chance to say something about the kind of reckless reliance on credit that has almost brought us to our knees was too good to miss.”

In the film, Don’s simple lifestyle clashes with that of his flashy property developer son.

An audience of 8 million tuned in for the final episode of A Touch Of Frost in April.

Jason had played Detective Inspector Jack Frost for 18 years.
